Storing and mailing Drosera pollen
In this video, I show you, comrades, how to store Drosera pollen in case you need to store some for hybridizing or to ensure successful self-pollination. There's been a lot of good success with hybridizing in the community lately, so give Drosera a shot!
Let me know down below how I did. Got any interesting Drosera hybrids to show off? Be sure to mail us at Sundewman1@gmail.com!

Sundews eating hundreds of fruit flies in a terrarium!!! Carnivorous plant carnage :)
Просмотров 10 тыс.6 лет назад
We unleashed a vial of fruit flies (Drosophila melanogaster) into a terrarium of Drosera adelae (the Lance-leaf Sundew) and watched the carnage unfold! While this is not generally recommended for long-term feeding strategies for sundews, it is something I've always wanted to do :P. For more information about Drosera adelae, check out this page here www.growsundews.com/sundews/adelae.html. Curio...
Drosera companion creatures: springtails
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.6 лет назад
Springtails are fascinating creatures, not insects but more closely related to hexapods. The hopping creatures can be used in the horticulture of plants like Drosera to reduce the bulk loads of potentially harmful mold or fungus in the soil mass. If you're interested in cultivating or using springtails I suggest you go to Joshsfrogs.com, they have active cultures for relatively cheap. I'll prob...
Drosera flower dissection and cross pollination part 2
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.6 лет назад
In part two of our dissection, we uncover some of the more subtle features of the Drosera flowers, their ovaries, eggs (unfertilized/undeveloped eggs), and the stalk connection point (receptacle).
Drosera flower dissection and cross pollination part 1
Просмотров 4,2 тыс.6 лет назад
In this video I show you some of the basic sexual pieces of Drosera flowers, the yellow anthers which produce the pollen, and the pink lobes of the stigma which receives the pollen. The pollen actually germinates a tube traveling about 1.5 centimeters, before it is received by the eggs or (unfertilized seeds). If there is no ripe pollen, you can either leave the unripe anther inside the flower ...
Feeding tiny baby sundews.
Просмотров 9 тыс.6 лет назад
In this video I use my camera lens attachment to show you how to feed very small baby sundews. Disclaimer: when feeding sundews its always best to err on less food. More food invites problems like pests. Much of this is review from Aaron's earlier video, this is for supplementary information. See earlier video: ruclips.net/video/U6y5fDHwHP4/видео.html Interestingly these pots are pretty molded,...
Drosera spatulata var. "Gympiensis" part 2
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.6 лет назад
In part two I quickly go over a closeup of the flowers which are hairy. This video is mostly for enjoyment purposes of viewing the flowers which are pretty unique to the genus.
Drosera spatulata var. "Gympiensis"
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.6 лет назад
Drosera spatulata var. "Gympiensis" is an awesome Australian form spatulata. I care for it like any other spatulata in my collection, but it is a pretty special sundew with short and very hairy flower stalks, the plants grow low and hug their pots unlike any sundew I've grown. Check out part 2 for a closeup on the fower stalks. ruclips.net/video/NYrc1WBTw-U/видео.html
Drosera burmanii "Gunung Keledang, Malaysia"
Просмотров 4,7 тыс.6 лет назад
This form is especially unique, when grown well the plant forms an incredibly tight rosette with beautiful bright green leaves which are bordered with a orange/cherry red-ish tentacle. The leaves are also atypically roundish for burmanii, which usually has square/triangular shaped leaves. When grown well and kept alive long enough the plant slowly forms a stem and skirt of dead leaves, travelin...
Drosera capensis "Compact Rosette"
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.6 лет назад
Drosera capensis "Compact Rosette" is a peculiar form of Cape sundew, as the name implies it's a smaller sundew and the leaves have a short length compared to other Drosera capensis. It is a very slow grower! The plant is quite showy; many of the wide leaves blush and turn red with age. It's pretty similar to some of the Bain's Kloof forms and a true show stopper. It's certainly one of my favor...
Drosera sp. "Lantau Island"
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.6 лет назад
Drosera sp. "Lantau Island" is an amazing natural hybrid between a small, red form of Drosera spatulata, and Drosera oblanceolata. In terms of rosette sundews, this species can get quite large. It has an olive green and red coloration on the leaves resulting in a chameleon effect which I really love. The seeds produced are some of the largest Drosera seeds, aside from regia. It's a hardy grower...
Drosera anglica, tropical form (Kanaele Bog, Kauai, Hawaii)
Просмотров 4,3 тыс.8 лет назад
Tropical forms of Drosera anglica are very unique, beautiful, and similar in growing conditions to Drosera intermedia. The location form of D. anglica from Kanaele Bog, Kauai, Hawaii, is fairly small, but is easy to propagate and is fun to grow. Drosera capillaris "Long-Arm" and "typical" forms~ Sundews, Carnivorous Plants
Просмотров 15 тыс.12 лет назад
Drosera capillaris, sometimes referred to as the "pink sundew" is found commonly in the southeastern United States "from Virginia to Florida to Texas. Forms are also known from Central and South America" (page 131 of The Savage Garden). The leaves can develop red coloration in bright enough lighting, but otherwise will remain yellow-green or yellow-orange. There is also a form that lacks pigmen...
Drosera Intermedia: Tropical forms ~Sundews, Carnivorous Plants

I just bought one of these and had it on a south facing window sill under similar conditions with the exception being it’s a little warmer than what you have it and it was taking some strong direct sunlight and some of the new leaves started to get burned and when I say new leaves I mean the ones that haven’t yet unfolded, is it possible it’s getting too much light?

I find these to be a favorite in my small collection of sundews. Propagation is far easier and more productive than I expected and they definitely spread out in the pot fast! I have some in natural light in a south facing window and under artificial lights. The natural light makes them very red, the artificial light I'm using only makes the tentacles? Red but both are very dewy and I have no issues with fungus gnats among my houseplants
